With the addition of an ADU (accessory dwelling unit) in this NE Portland backyard, the owners wanted privacy between the ADU and and their own outdoor space. They decided to “go tropical,” with Musa basjoo playing the starring role in developing a living screen, and other hardy tropical or tropical-looking plants playing a supporting role. The gold house is theirs; the buff-colored structure is the ADU.
